Country of EVS: Poland, Gdańsk
Country or residence: Turkey
Period: August 1, 2018 – October 1, 2018
1. Why did you decide to make EVS abroad?
I decided to be a volunteer because I wanted to live ‘a foreign life’,
experience something different and unique before I start my job. I wanted
real, independent life experience and when I found the opportunity to be
an EVS volunteer, I thought it was perfect: I would get the chance to do
something for myself but, at the same time, for somebody else, which is
much more gratifying.
2. How did you choose this country and this Project? Why this
one?
Actually It was only the opportunity for me from sending
organization. But It made me happy to go Poland because I have
been in Zakopane for a youth Exchange Project and I obtained to
take a tour in Krakow in this process. I wanted to go other cities in
Poland when I came but I did not have time. So this Project also
provided me to see Poland again and also provided an opportunity
about living this city.
3. Describe briefly your Project
About the project, in my association in Turkey, we generally work
with youth and in this Project in Poland my task is to work mostly
with older people (it is my first experience to work with older
people). My tasks are organizing activities for elder and disabled
people.
4. How many applications you sent before you have found
your Project?
It was my first application.
5. How much time it took from the moment you decided to be
volunteer till the moment you start it?
More than 3 months.
6. What was the biggest difficulty you have faced preparing to
your Project?
Actually nothing was difficult for me because sending organization
and hosting organization worked perfectly to make everything easy
for us.
7. What surprised you in this country?
The complexity of the Polish language
8. What is the most beautiful place you visited during your
EVS?
I have not gotten such an opportunity yet, I only went to Old City
Town in Gdansk till this moment but I am planning to visit Warsaw
before I leave Poland.
9. What can you advice to the people who wants to be EVS
volunteers?
Before going an EVS Project, first discover yourself and investigate
whether the project is suitable for you. A project outside your
interests or working field can make you bored. But If you interest
the Project topic I am sure that it will be one of the best
experiences in your life. Me too, when I came here, I had the
chance for myself to be immersed in many different languages and
cultures, and compare them. Before coming to Poland, I made a
search from internet about Polish culture, traditions and life in the
city. Undoubtedly it made everything easy.
